Obituary, Football history of Winfield Coach Leon McCoy

WINFIELD, W.Va. — Leon McCoy, 88, of Scott Depot passed away on May 27, 2017. He was born to the late Wava Sue Webb McCoy Toney in Jeffrey, Boone Co., WV, on June 1, 1928, but grew up in the East End of Charleston. McCoy was an All-State football player at Charleston High School.

Afterward, he went to the University of Tennessee on a football scholarship in 1947-48, and then finished up at Morris Harvey (1948-50) where he was an All-American football player in 1950. Leon was also a United States heavyweight boxing champion of the South in 1950.
