Michael Payton inducted into the CFB HOF

HUNTINGTON – On Saturday, Dec. 5, former Marshall quarterback Michael Payton joined other Thundering Herd great when he was officially inducted into the National Football Foundation’s College Football Hall of Fame.

The dinner and ceremony was at the famous Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City last weekend, drawing a crowd of “Who’s Who” in College Football for the annual inductions. Former Marshall head coach Jack Lengyel is a member of the National Football Foundation board.

Payton led Marshall to the 1992 I-AA National Championship with a 31-28 win over Coach Jim Tressel’s Youngstown State Penguins in a sold-out Marshall University Stadium (today’s Joan C.
