HUNTINGTON — Is Corey Neely’s transformation into a contender at safety a product of the weight room, getting the hang of the defense or the urgency of being a senior?
Answer, as with all successful junior-college imports: Yes on all counts.
Neely, a 6-foot-1, 187-pound native of Rock Hill, South Carolina, has enjoyed as fine a month as anyone in the Thundering Herd camp. With Tiquan Lang temporarily out of the picture, he has played mostly in a rotation with Kendal Gant and C.J. Reavis.
Sporting No. 5 instead of the No. 40 he wore last year, he’s thriving.
