BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Marshall built a big first-half lead and cruised to an 89-74 Conference USA tournament win over Florida Atlantic on Wednesday in the final first-round game of the day at Legacy Arena.
Stevie Browning led the Thundering Herd (18-14) with 22 points, five rebounds and five assists. C.J. Burks and Jon Elmore scored 14 each. Ryan Taylor scored 11 and Austin Loop had 10.
Marshall, seeded sixth, now plays No. 3 seed Old Dominion, which had a first-round bye, in Thursday’s 9 p.m. quarterfinal. No. 11 seed FAU ended its season at 8-22.
The Herd hit eight 3-pointers in the first half and led 52-29 at the break.
