HUNTINGTON — Marshall headed to Hattiesburg, Miss. knowing the Herd had won five games in a row over Southern Miss, including spoiling the Golden Eagles Homecomings in 2014 and 2012. But the struggles by Marshall in the 2016 season continued tonight as the Herd fell to 2-6 on the season, 1-3 in Conference USA, with a 24-7 loss to Southern in front of a homecoming crowd of 31,275.
USM improves to 5-3, and stayed close to Louisiana Tech in the race for the West Division crown as the Eagles are now 3-1. LA Tech improved to 6-3, 4-1 in the division with a rout of Rice.
