Marshall pounds Eastern Kentucky 96-72

HUNTINGTON — Players were running quickly and effortlessly, the ball was whizzing around and shots were falling. Marshall basketball, as envisioned by Dan D’Antoni, was in full session Saturday night.

Eastern Kentucky was the victim of this hoops renaissance, as the once-struggling Thundering Herd firebombed the Colonels 96-72 before 4,553 at Cam Henderson Center.

The Herd has won two in a row after an 0-6 start, and the pace had fans plugged in the entire way. A racehorse game was expected, as the Colonels came to town as one of the highest-scoring teams in Division I.

But Austin Loop and James Kelly, among others, brought the Colonels (7-4) back to earth.
