MIAMI — Marshall’s 2016 offensive explosion was good for the one game it lasted.
A week after rolling up 42 points against Middle Tennessee, the Thundering Herd’s offense was thrown back into neutral Saturday night, losing 31-14 to Florida International.
The result gives Marshall (3-8, 2-5) its first losing season in Conference USA play since 2008, and is the first time it has lost to FIU (4-7, 4-3) in four C-USA games.
The Herd didn’t break the 300-total-yard barrier until late in the game, when the Panthers had the game in hand. Once again, rushing yards were hardest to come by, with two tailbacks combining for just 75.
