HUNTINGTON — Once upon a time, Kiana Evans looked outside of West Virginia to play college basketball — she wouldn’t be the first state native, athlete or not, to think about going elsewhere.
But it wasn’t all about youthful wanderlust. The Huntington native’s chances to play in her hometown, at Marshall, were slim at best. Let’s just say she wasn’t on then-coach Royce Chadwick’s recruiting short list.
She was going to have to leave the state to play Division I ball.
“He didn’t like me too much, I guess,” she said Friday, after the Thundering Herd beat Florida International 70-52.
