Marshall football assistant leaves for head coaching job

Mike Furrey is getting back into head coaching, leaving Marshall with a vacancy on its football staff.

Limestone College, a Division II school in Gaffney, South Carolina, will introduce Furrey as its new head coach Wednesday morning. He spent three seasons on the Thundering Herd staff as the wide receivers coach, plus a fourth spring practice season.

Furrey, an eight-year NFL veteran, came to Huntington after two seasons as head coach at Kentucky Christian in nearby Grayson. He took that program from an 0-11 season to a 7-4 mark in 2012, with a No. 25 NAIA ranking.
