HUNTINGTON — Thursday night, the Marshall Thundering Herd got a good challenge from a rebuilding West Virginia State team, led by former Marshall assistant and long-time State Coach Bryan Poore, and Marshall got the win, 93-70, in its first exhibition of the 2016-17 season. The Herd will face a better challenge from the University of Charleston on Sunday at 2 p.m., picked fifth in the Mountain East Conference preseason pool compared to State, who was selected 10th.
Poore was an assistant for Coach Greg White at Marshall from 1995-99, and is in his 17th season of leading the Yellowjackets, posting a 286-191 mark at WVSU.
