HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Marshall’s Chase Boster worked into the eighth inning, going 114 pitches strong and striking out a career best 11 batters as Marshall advanced in the winner’s bracket to face the home team from Southern Miss tomorrow in the 8:30 p.m. start on the Golden Eagles’ home field. The Herd defeated the defending champs of the 2015 tournament, FIU, by a final of 5-3, at Pete Taylor Park. Marshall extends its win record to 33-19, the most wins in Marshall history.
With the win tonight, Boster (8-2) becomes the pitcher the most wins in Marshall history with his 20th career win – passing Marshall Hall of Fame member Albie DeYoung of the 1978 Southern Conference championship Herd that was MU’s second NCAA Tournament team (1975-78) and also Grant Harper, who also won 19 (2001-04).
