RICHMOND, Ky. — Nick Mayo scored a career-high 30 points and pulled down 10 rebounds Saturday as Eastern Kentucky repelled a Marshall rally to win 89-80 at McBrayer Arena.
The Colonels (5-4) piled up a 76-60 lead with just over five minutes left, which proved to be too much for the Thundering Herd (5-2) to overcome. It wasn’t without suspense, though, as Marshall forced a rash of turnovers and rallied to cut the deficit to 78-75 with 2:32 left.
But the Herd failed to come closer on its next two possessions, and EKU called a timeout after recovering a loose ball to avoid a turnover.
