Marshall baseball rallies late at APP to avoid sweep

As Sunday’s game at Appalachian Power Park entered the seventh-inning stretch, Marshall was headed toward a dull, dismal end to a three-game sweep by Middle Tennessee.

To that point, a forgettable effort included a two-out fly ball that dropped between two fielders in shallow left-field, followed by a two-run single in a four-run third inning. In the sixth, two Blue Raiders scored on separate wild pitches.

MTSU brought a 6-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh. Ten Herd batters later, Marshall had dinged up four pitchers, scored six runs and taken a 7-6 lead.

With another run in the bottom of the eighth, the Thundering Herd carted off an 8-6 victory, easing the blow of a doubleheader sweep Saturday.
