SPARTANBURG, S.C. — The NBA’s reigning MVP, the only two-time winner of the Walter Payton Award, an eight-time Professional Golfers Association (PGA) Tour winner, and the Thundering Herd’s first inductee highlight the Southern Conference Hall of Fame class for 2016. This year’s group of individuals represents the sixth class of inductees into the league’s Hall of Fame, highlighting 95 years of athletic success.
Inductees include Marshall’s initial inductee into the SoCon HOF and MU’s all-time top scorer for women’s or men’s basketball by a Thundering Herd player, Karen Pelphrey. Also in this year’s class are recent SoCon stars in basketball’s Stephen Curry (Davidson, 2006-09) and football’s Armanti Edwards (Appalachian State, 2006-09) while Marshall fans will remember during the Herd’s membership in the league (1977–97) battling Purple Paladin golfer Brad Faxon (Furman, 1979-83) and Buccaneers point guard Keith “Mister” Jennings (East Tennessee State, 1987-91).
