MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The Marshall Thundering Herd baseball team committed five errors against a team it needed a near perfect game to compete. That led to a 14-7 loss against the Big 12’s West Virginia Mountaineers Tuesday evening at Monongalia County Ballpark in Morgantown.
The Thundering Herd drops to 12-14 overall, while the Mountaineers improve to 16-10. Marshall junior Brad O’Connor (1-3) starter and was tagged with the loss. West Virginia’s Isaiah Kearns (4-0) collected the win, while Sam Kessler earned his first save.
It was a back and forth game for the first four innings, with Marshall getting the lead early, WVU coming back on the Herd and then scoring six runs on seven hits in the fourth inning to run O’Connor and give the Mountaineers an 11-3 edge, as O’Connor allowed 11 runs (9 earned) on 11 hits, with one walk and two strikeouts.
