Former Marshall quarterback Rakeem Cato is in search of a new professional home.
The Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League released Cato on Monday night, one of three cuts the team made. Montreal also released former East Carolina quarterback Shane Carden, a former contemporary of Cato’s in Conference USA, and offensive lineman Michael Bamiro.
Signed by the Alouettes in 2015, his first start was a 20-for-25, 241-yard, three-touchdown effort against the Calgary Stampeders. In two seasons, Cato completed nearly 69 percent of his passes for 3,570 yards, 17 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
Cato finished his four-year career with the Thundering Herd as its career leader in passing yards (14,079) and touchdown passes (131).
