HATTIESBURG, Miss. — No. 8 Charlotte had to win its final game to even qualify for the Conference USA Baseball Championship, presented by Buffalo Wild Wings. Florida Atlantic, who won the regular season with a 4-1 win over WKU in a suspended game that not only had to be finished on the final Saturday of the year, they had to wait for Old Dominion to hit a ninth-inning home run to push by Marshall to give the Owls a championship, and the No. 1 seed.
So both of these late rallies were in the back of both team’s minds when Charlotte trailed by two in the top of the ninth of the second game of the day in the championship, but when all was said and done the 49ers, who had runners at first and second with no outs, could not push two runs in and fell to No.
