Morehead State men’s basketball coach Sean Woods has resigned following an investigation into alleged physic abuse of his players, multiple sources are reporting online, including ESPN, CBSSports.com and locally in Huntington by WSAZ TV-3. An official announcement is expected at 4 p.m. EST Thursday.
Woods has been suspended since Nov. 22 and was charged with misdemeanor battery after two players – Malik Maitland and Soufiyane Diakite – said in a court affidavit that they had altercations with Woods. The allegations came after Morehead State started the season 2-2, beating Kentucky Christian and Lipscomb at home to open with two wins, then losing back-to-back road games at longtime rival Marshall University in the battle for the Ellis Johnson Trophy, 85-77, and then at Evansville, falling to the Purple Aces, 69-56.
