It’s a long way to March, but the Charleston Civic Center Coliseum will have a decidedly late-winter feel to it today for the Capital City Classic between the women’s basketball teams at Marshall and West Virginia.
The 4 p.m. tipoff sees the Thundering Herd (6-0) brings no fewer than seven Mountain State natives on its roster. WVU’s roster has just one West Virginian on it, but 5-foot-3 freshman point guard Olivia Seggie has been arguably the most visible player in prep girls basketball in the state in the last two seasons.
“Every time I go by there I get excited from all the good memories there,” Seggie said about the Civic Center, where she went 7-1 as on-court leader of Morgantown High School’s teams that won Class AAA state championships in 2014 and 2015.
