HUNTINGTON — Marshall was up 21-7 over the Akron Zips on Saturday at the Joan C. Edwards Stadium in Huntington and it appeared the Thundering Herd would keep its record clean against Akron and move to 2-0. The Zips had won zip in Huntington, 0-3 at Edwards Stadium and 0-3 at the Herd’s former home of Fairfield Stadium.
But in a 34-0 points scored second half that zapped the Herd in a resounding 65-38 Akron win, Zips kicker Tom O’Leary burned through the Herd making 8-of-9 extra-points and hitting a field goal made him 1-of-10 players for Akron to score against the Herd that is Marshall’s mascot.
