With the #18 pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, the Detroit Pistons selected forward Henry Ellenson from Marquette University. Ellenson is the first Marquette player selected in the NBA Draft since 2012, when Jae Crowder and Darius Johnson-Odom were taken in the second round.
Ellenson, a 6’11”, 245 lb. freshman from Rice Lake, Wisconsin, led Marquette in scoring and rebounding in 2015-16, and led the Big East in the latter category as well. Ellenson smashed eight different Marquette freshman season records, including points and rebounds, and posted the 10th best rebounding season in Golden Eagles history. He was named Big East Freshman of the Year and was an obvious inclusion on the league’s all-freshman squad as well.
