WASHINGTON -- Marcus Derrickson scored 16 points, D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera had 15 points and six assists, and Georgetown built a 17-point first-half lead in an 80-70 win over Marquette on Saturday night.
Georgetown (9-5, 2-0 Big East) shot 58 percent before the break en route to the Hoyas' eighth win in 10 games. Derrickson was 5 of 11 from the field and grabbed six rebounds, while Smith-Rivera was perfect on eight free throws.
Tied 11-all, Georgetown used a 15-2 run in less than three minutes to take a 13-point lead. Marquette countered with back-to-back triples from Duane Wilson and Henry Ellenson, but the Hoyas quickly built their lead back up to double digits where it would stay for most of the game.
