Marquette women’s basketball used a 15-0 run in the third quarter to propel them to an 86-71 win over Xavier on Sunday afternoon. The Golden Eagles are now 10-5 in Big East play, and thanks to the events of the weekend, MU has guaranteed themselves a bye to the quarterfinals in the Big East tournament.
That’s not the big news of the day, though. Sophomore Allazia Blockton became the 25th player in program history to score 1,000 career points when she drained this basket early in the third quarter.
You could make the argument that Blockton’s historic bucket jumpstarted the entire Marquette team, as the Golden Eagles would outscore the Musketeers 26-13 in the period.
