'You can't switch off at this level': Rio Ferdinand blames trio of Liverpool defenders for letting Karim Benzema score as the Frenchman's last-16 strike knocked the Reds out of Europe

Rio Ferdinand has blamed the defending of Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Ibrahima Konate for Karim Benzema's goal that lead to Liverpool being knocked out of the Champions League on Wednesday evening.

Admittedly it was a big ask from the beginning for Liverpool to overturn a 5-2 first-leg deficit, however Benzema's 78th minute strike was the final blow in eliminating any hope of a comeback win.

The Frenchman scored after Eduardo Camavinga's midfield-splitting pass ricocheted off Benzema's feet, falling into the path of a bundling Vincius Jr who knocked the ball back across the box to leave the Madrid striker with a simple finish.
