The group-stage draw for 2022/23 has placed David De Gea's Spain in the same pool as Portugal, for whom Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot all played in last month's World Cup qualifiers. The two Iberian giants will meet in the first set of fixtures on Thursday 2 June 2022 with De Gea and company at home.
Goals have been scarce between the great rivals in recent years, with the last two meetings - both of them friendlies - ending 0-0. But three meetings ago, it was a complete contrast as the neighbouring countries drew 3-3 in a thrilling game at the start of the 2018 World Cup.
