The award is handed out to all homegrown Academy players who have been developed domestically for three years or more, prior to their 21st birthday.
Hence, Wheatley is our latest recipient, as the 18-year-old came on as a substitute in April's 4-2 victory over Sheffield United at Old Trafford. The striker also featured in subsequent matches against Crystal Palace and Arsenal.
There was, of course, extra significance to Wheatley's debut, as he became our 250th Academy graduate to appear for the first team.
