Wayne Rooney believes Birmingham can emulate the rise of Manchester City and Newcastle after taking over as the Championship club’s new manager.
The former Manchester United and England captain is back in English football after signing a three-and-a-half-year deal with Blues. The club’s US ownership – with chief executive Garry Cook at the forefront – have earmarked Rooney as the man to lead them back to the Premier League.
Rooney cut a confident figure in his first public appearance since replacing the sacked John Eustace.
