Wayne Rooney may not have to get too used to being a substitute for England judging by the Three Lions' lacklustre performance in Slovenia.

England's midfield three of Jordan Henderson, Eric Dier and Dele Alli failed to cement a starting spot during a disappointing display on Tuesday night.

In fact it was the latter who made way for Rooney with 17 minutes left on the clock.

The Manchester United captain was handed the armband by Jordan Henderson before being deployed in the No 10 role behind lone striker Daniel Sturridge.
