On this day in 1999, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer scored four times for Manchester United in a ruthless 5-1 thumping of today's opponents Everton.
The Norwegian ran riot at Old Trafford in the first match after the Reds were crowned world champions by beating Palmeiras in the Intercontinental Cup. Although Francis Jeffers opened the scoring for Everton and then hit a post with a header, referee Graham Poll pointed to the spot when Richard Dunne handled inside the area. United defender Denis Irwin stepped up to beat the visitors' goalkeeper Paul Gerrard and level the scores.
Solskjaer then took centre stage, converting two precise Paul Scholes through balls to rack up 50 goals for the club and secure a 3-1 lead going into the interval.
