Victor Lindelof has delivered a message of gratitude to Manchester United supporters, following his positive test for COVID-19.

The Swedish centre-back missed Monday's 1-1 draw with Newcastle United due to the illness, and he will be absent again when Burnley come to Old Trafford on Thursday night as his enforced period of isolation continues.

Interim boss Ralf Rangnick confirmed before kick-off at St James' Park that Lindelof's test had produced a positive result on Sunday, and it led to Raphael Varane returning alongside Harry Maguire at the heart of the Reds' defence.

Victor is far from alone at United in having contracted the virus at some stage this month. Multiple infections in the squad meant that men's first-team operations at the club's Carrington training ground had to be closed for a few days, and the fixtures against Brentford on 14 December and Brighton & Hove Albion on 18 December were both postponed.
