VAR provided an early talking point at Old Trafford as Manchester United hosted Reading in the third round of the FA Cup.
Brazilian Fred had the ball in the net but celebrations were cut short when the linesman flagged for offside.
Referee Stuart Attwell then signalled for VAR and two minutes and five seconds after Fred's effort was ruled out United were awarded a penalty for a trip on Mata.
