The visit was to promote interest in the women’s game in the local area ahead of the UEFA Women’s Euros next year, a tournament which kicks off at Old Trafford on Wednesday 6 July when England face Austria.
It is a fixture that both Toone and Russo will hope to be a part of, but their focus last week was solely on inspiring the next generation.
“It’s been great to visit the girls here at Stretford today,” Ella said. “I was really impressed with the talent out there, which is why it’s important for us to get involved in sessions like these to show the girls what can be achieved if they continue to work hard.
