Noam Emeram was the only player to find the net in the first half, with a close-range finish, and the scorer turned creator in the second period by setting up Omari Forson's strike and the second of two goals for debutant Charlie McNeill, both with cutbacks from the left wing.
McNeill's first was an accomplished effort, firing low across the Derby keeper into the bottom left-hand corner. And the Reds' no.9 was inches away from a dream debut hat-trick when another shot flew just beyond the right-hand post with the Rams' shot-stopper at full stretch.
