Everyone at Manchester United was saddened to receive the news that Tom Tyrrell, the 'Voice of Old Trafford' for many years during the 1970s and 1980s, has passed away. Tom was a familiar face and, more especially, voice to the supporters he communicated with through Old Trafford’s PA system in his capacity as stadium announcer and matchday DJ. He was 100 per cent a Manchester United man and his affection for the club was instantly apparent through his work and to anyone who found themselves in his company. Tom was, first and foremost, an accomplished broadcaster who reported on the Reds for countless years, in his own inimitable style, for BBC Radio Manchester, Piccadilly Radio and Key 103.
