Second-half goals from Joshua Bohui and DJ Buffonge brought Manchester United’s league season to a winning conclusion against Stoke City and confirmed runners-up slot in the Premier League Under-18 North table.
United’s youngsters prepared for this final fixture of the 22-match league season content in the knowledge that they had already done enough to qualify for the Merit Group, from which this season’s overall champions will emerge.
United, wearing the change strip of all blue, were forced to defend for the first few minutes as Stoke went looking for an early goal, but Kieran McKenna’s side soon steadied themselves and shots from Ethan Hamilton and Indy Boonen almost proved successful.
