Sunderland midfielder Sebastian Larsson should not have been sent off against Manchester United claim Jamie Redknapp and Phil Neville

Jamie Redknapp and Phil Neville have criticised the sending off of Sebastian Larsson for Sunderland against Manchester United, with both saying it should have been a booking.

Larsson was given his marching orders in the 43rd minute at the Stadium of Light for a challenge on Ander Herrera with the score at 1-0 to United, a straight red card after he was adjudged by referee Craig Pawson to have been reckless.

However replays indicated the contact was minimal, and Sportsmail columnist Redknapp felt Pawson was too eager to brandish his red card.

Speaking as a pundit on Sky Sports, Redknapp said: 'I think it was a yellow card, but I'm not surprised the referee gave the red because he was so quick to go to his pocket.
