Ross Stewart and Amad Diallo netted as Sunderland eased to a confident 2-0 win against 10-man Middlesbrough in a fierce north-east derby on Sunday afternoon.
Scottish striker Stewart was brought down by Boro defender Dael Fry when in on goal in a challenge which saw Fry sent off. Zack Steffen saved Stewart's penalty but was powerless to stop him tapping in the rebound.
On-loan Manchester United winger Diallo then fired home with his left foot to wrap up a result that sees Tony Mowbray's side move just one point behind Michael Carrick's men in the chase for the Championship play-offs.
