Sir Alex Ferguson admits regret at missing out on emotional Glasgow return for the 2002 Champions League final

Sir Alex Ferguson has expressed fresh regret at his failure to secure an emotional return to Glasgow for the 2002 Champions League final.

The legendary Manchester United boss looked odds-on to travel back to his home city after securing a last four clash with German side Bayer Leverkusen.

Dumped from the semi-finals on away goals before the Bundesliga club went on to lose the final at Hampden to a Zinedine Zidane inspired Real Madrid, however, Ferguson believes his decision to scope out Glasgow hotels in advance backfired badly.
