Sheffield United want a new centre-back in January and are exploring potential deals for Manchester United's Marcos Rojo or Preston North End's Ben Davies.
Rojo is eager to leave United and play regular football again. Chris Wilder made a bold attempt to lure the 30-year-old away from Old Trafford in the summer but the finances involved meant a deal never got off the ground.
The Bramall Lane club will consider ways of structuring a package for the combative Argentine though his salary of around £80,000 a week could still prove too big an obstacle.
