Richard Keys claims VAR is 'giving referees an excuse' to avoid tough calls - and slams Simon Hooper for missing Andre Onana's blatant foul at Old Trafford

Richard Keys has claimed that VAR is 'giving referees' an excuse to avoid tough decisions after Simon Hooper failed to award Wolves a clear penalty against Man United.

The Red Devils were winning a tight game 1-0 when new goalkeeper Andre Onana rushed out to claim a cross before missing the ball and taking out two Wolves attackers.

Hooper did not see an issue with the attempt while VAR Michael Salisbury and assistant VAR Richard West did not intervene.

This led to the trio being dropped from the next round of Premier League fixtures, while Wolves were issued an apology for the mistake after the match.
