REVEALED: Manchester United activated an 'emergency protocol' to sign Marcel Sabitzer on deadline day following Christian Eriksen's three-month ankle injury lay off - after Erik ten Hag was 'presented with a 10-man shortlist'

Manchester United activated an 'emergency protocol' to secure the services of Marcel Sabitzer after Christian Eriksen was ruled out for three months with an ankle injury.

Sabitzer's loan spell was confirmed late on deadline day with the Red Devils moving quickly to secure a deal after Eriksen injured his ankle during Manchester United's FA Cup victory over Reading.

United's football director John Murtough, deputy football director Andy O'Boyle, director of data science Dominic Jordan and head of recruitment operations Steve Brown were all involved in the acquisition of Sabitzer.

According to ESPN, the United chiefs handed Ten Hag a list of 10 names on Monday morning.
