Inevitably, those names – and many other famous ones to herald from the island of Ireland – have created long-lasting support for the Reds in the second-largest city in the Republic.
The amazing photo below (taken at Musgrave Park, Cork, on 3 August 1990 – where United were playing Cork City in a pre-season friendly) is testament to that passion. But despite that, in recent years there had been no organised supporters’ club in Cork – not until Brian Kirwan and James Callanan decided to get things going again in 2020.
Their supporters’ club became affiliated in 2021, and we recently caught up with Kirwan to find out how the United-supporting scene is faring in the city.
