Paul Pogba's move means Real Madrid do not hold world transfer record for first time for the first time since 2000 - they are happy to let Manchester United be the new galacticos

There was a sort of Gallic shrug from Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane on Monday evening at Rosenborg's Lerkendal Stadium when he was asked several times about Paul Pogba signing for Manchester United.

He has a stock phrase that he uses in press conferences: 'y nada mas' (and nothing more) and he wheeled the soundbite out to bat away the enquiries – the price is what it is; he's a United player, I wish him well, and nothing more.

There is no question that Zidane would have loved to add Pogba to his team. He would have slotted in nicely on the left side of a midfield three with Luka Modric and Toni Kroos or Casemiro, playing behind a front three of Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo.
