To score for United in the Manchester derby is a dream for many young Reds fans, but particularly those who hail from the local area.
Stan Pearson was one such fan and he lived that dream by scoring three goals against the Blues, including a brace on this day (3 September) that secured a 2-1 come-from-behind win in 1949.
The prolific United forward rescued the points for his club after City had taken an early lead through Jimmy Munro. Pearson’s first, the result of a goalmouth melee, was followed by a brilliantly-executed finish in the dying embers of the game to further cement his hero status on the Old Trafford terraces.
