Newcastle 'used end of Man United thrashing as a training session', says Eddie Howe, as he explains his unusual substitutions

Eddie Howe has admitted using the final minutes of Newcastle's 3-0 win over Manchester United as a 'training session'.

Newcastle inflicted further misery on the hosts following their Manchester derby defeat by ending their Carabao Cup defence in the fourth round.

Miguel Almiron and Lewis Hall struck in the first half, with substitute Joe Willock adding a third on the hour mark.

Howe was questioned post-match about his decision to bring on regulars Callum Wilson and Bruno Guimaraes four minutes after taking a 3-0 lead.
