Newcastle leap-frogged Manchester United into third, strengthening their case for a top four finish and weakening their opponent's in the process.
Having dominated Erik ten Hag's side for much of the afternoon, Newcastle must have thought that the goal would never come, but it did 25 minutes from the end, thanks to a header from Joe Willock.
Willock had missed the best chance of the game in the first half, but showed resilience and good energy to drive from midfield to nod in Allan Saint-Maximin's header back across goal, which came from a brilliant bit of hold up play by Alexander Isak, who fed Bruno Guimaraes to stand the ball up at the back post.
