Former Manchester United and England midfielder Michael Carrick is reportedly closing in on becoming the new head coach at Middlesbrough.
The 41-year-old is set for talks with Boro on Tuesday over the vacancy following the sacking of Chris Wilder last week.
Carrick, who has been out of work since a three-game caretaker stint at United following the dismissal of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last year, is in pole position to take the job, according to The Mirror.
Carrick is a native of the North-East and fits the bill for Boro owner Steve Gibson, who is said to prefer a head coach as opposed to a manager.
