Mats Hummels joins Juan Mata in donating 1% of salary to charity as Bayern Munich star signs up to Spaniard's Common Goal initiative

Bayern Munich defender Mats Hummels has signed up to help Juan Mata in his Common Goal and will donate one percent of his salary to charity.

With transfer fees and wages escalating, Manchester United midfielder Mata launched the charity earlier this month telling Sportsmail how he wanted a team of players to follow his example with the ultimate aim to get football's clubs and institutions to donate one percent as well.

Germany international Hummels was switched on to the idea after reading Mata's interview.

'As soon as I heard of Common Goal I knew this was a chance for football to improve our world and I wanted to be part of it,' said 28-year-old Hummels.
