Manchester United's Scott McTominay was urged to choose Scotland ahead of England by Sir Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho, claims grandfather

Sir Alex Ferguson urged Manchester United youngster Scott McTominay to represent Scotland at international level, even though England had expressed an interest in his services.

The 21-year-old has been impressive in the heart of midfield for Jose Mourinho's side this season, but will not be in contention for a World Cup place with England as he has already committed his future to Scotland.

His grandfather, Frank, has revealed that Ferguson was a key figure in McTominay's development at Manchester United and, alongside current manager Mourinho, pushed him towards rejecting the country of his birth for his ancestral home.
