Manchester United need only a point from their game against CSKA Moscow to guarantee top spot in Champions League Group A and a place in the knockout round.
The Red Devils won all four of their opening games in Europe’s premier competition this season, but were beaten by Basel last time out.
They can still fail to qualify for the last-16, though CSKA will have to win at Old Trafford by seven clear goals, while Basel will also need to defeat Benfica.
Such a feat seems unlikely given CSKA have not won any of their past five games against Man United in the Champions League, and the Red Devils have lost only two of their last 48 group stage games played at Old Trafford.
